ABOUT ME

Parisa Abbas

Born and raised in Pakistan, this is my story:

At a curious age of ten, I received my father's ancient Sony laptop to play around with. Instead of abusing the opportunity to play video games, I discovered the cosmos of Youtube and stumbled upon a video explaining the existence of blackholes, a dense monstrous body that, back then, we knew almost nothing about.

I was captivated.

And then, I watched Interstellar; a movie that in the very literal sense, changed my life. The moment Cooper journeyed beyond the event horizon of Gargantua, I knew that every atom in my body was begging me to pursue the unknowns of our universe. I would like to believe that on some cosmic scale it was a form of quantum entanglement which, seven years later, has now become a tug that has led to the creation of this platform.

As an aspiring astrophysicist in a third world country with a lack of societal and governmental support, there is only so much one can do. Which is why I only hope that Astro News proves that an ambitious love can spark from the darkest of corners, burning all barriers.

I aim to represent all that my country has to offer so that young Pakistani girls are not told to be "practical", but to rather conquer the impossible.
